Music Video : The Hall of Fame (The Script)

Why are you sharing this song?

This song is The Hall of Fame from the band The Script. I share this song because its lyrics are truly inspiring. Every time when I have some setbacks and feel frustrated, I will listen to this song to get the power again. Hence, I share it with you, hope it can bring the same positive power to you, too!

The meaning of the lyrics:

At the beginning, it signs that :
Yeah, you could be the greatest
You can be the best
You can be the king kong banging on your chest

You could beat the world
You could beat the war
You could talk to God, go banging on his door

You can throw your hands up
You can beat the clock
You can move a mountain
You can break rocks

At first, the signer tried to tell their audience that he/she is really excellent. Besides, he also said that he trusts that the audience can to do many extremely hard tasks. I think this part can make me think all the challenging tasks I counter in the real life become much easier.

The next part is:

You can be a master
Don't wait for luck
Dedicate yourself and you can find yourself

Standing in the hall of fame
And the world's gonna know your name
Cause you burn with the brightest flame
And he world's gonna know your name
And you'll be on the walls of the hall of fame

In this part, the lyrics encourage the audience to face the challenge and try to get the opportunities by himself or herself rather than sit there to wait for luck. I think “Dedicate yourself and you can find yourself” wants to tell the audience that he/she have to make a lot of efforts on what you mind, and then he/she can find what the definition of success in his/her mind.

The third part is:
You could go the distance
You could run the mile
You could walk straight through hell with a smile

You could be the hero
You could get the gold
Breaking all the records they thought could never be broke

Do it for your people
Do it for your pride
Never gonna know if you never even try

Do it for your country
Do it for your name
Cause there's gonna be a day
When you're...

Standing in the hall of fame

This part is a little bit similar with the first part. However, I really like the sentence” You could walk straight through hell with a smile". I think the singer tried to remind the audience that he/she should not forget to be happy and smile even though he/she is facing a challenging tasks and huge stress.

In addition, I do also appreciate the sentence” Never gonna know if you never try”. Sometimes when we face some difficult tasks, we will choose not to try because we are afraid of failure. Therefore, the singer tries to tell the audience that he/she will only know the results when he/she gives it a try.

At last, the lyrics said that “Do it for your people. Do it for your country.

.This part is also significant because sometimes people try to perform well or outstanding is not only for themselves but also for their families or even countries.

TV commercial : Audi S6 2013

What is happening in this commercial?

In this commercial, although the teenager wears a nice suit and looks dashing, he still feels insecure. It is because he can’t go to the senior prom with a partner. However, his mom tries to comfort him that many people go to the prom without a partner, but he doesn’t feel better. Before he leaving home, his dad throw the key of  Audi S6 to him. Everything starts to change, when driving Audi S6 on the road, he becomes more and more confident and brave. He even park the car on the principal-only parking space when arriving in school. Furthermore, he even kisses the queen of the prom on the party. Although he is hit by a boy and gets hurt on his eye, he still laugh and scream happily on his way home, of course in the Audi S6.

What is the product or service?

The product is the Audi S6 in 2013.

Who is the target audience?

I think this commercial is for people who are still young and eager to be popular between their social networking. In this video, the main role is a young man who needs popularity among his friends and the confidence for himself. Both these two characteristics are highly demanded by the young people.

What emotions does it use to persuade the reader to buy the product or service? (fear, guilt, excitement, humor, etc.)

I think it use humor to persuade the consumers. People who had been a student all know what the teenager in the video worried about. Besides, almost everyone have dreamed to get a kiss from the most handsome boy or the prettiest girl on the party and even all of us also dreamed to park our cars in principal’s parking space. These crazy dreams can make us laugh easily. Of course when these wild dreams come true in the video will definitely make the audience can’t do nothing but laugh.

Does it do a good job in persuading the watcher to buy the product? Why or why not?

I think this commercial’s goal is not to persuade the watchers buy the products. The goal of this commercial is trying to use a humor way to give the audience a deeply impression of their brand, Audi. It will make people think young, creativity, bravery, confidence when they see Audi. I think it is also a significant target of a commercial because when people feel interested in one brand, they will very likely to consider the products of this brand when they have some needs. To sum up, I think this commercial is successful to convey the characteristics of the brands to the consumers. By the way, the cars made by Audi are really fantastic! I love them.

Animal Documentary : A Lioness Adopts a baby antelope

1.Why am I sharing this documentary?

It is really incredible for a female lion to adopt the baby antelope. Besides, I was stunned that animals can feel the complicate mood in their mind just as human. I think the activities the lion did in this video can connect with many psychology issue in human’s world so I share it with you.

2.Summary of the documentary:

The unheard situation happened in Kenya, one female lion, which should be a predator adopt her prey, a baby antelope. The lion seemed was infatuated with the baby antelope , so they do everything together just as real mother and baby.

However the touching scene was a deadlock. The baby antelope was starving because of the lack of milk. The lion once tried to lead the baby antelope rejoin in the oryx, but it apparently can not be successful.

The expert pointed out that the female lion had a serious loss in her mind so that when she saw the antelope as her baby rather than prey. The main reason of the loss of the female lion was solitary. Lions are used to be group-living , but the female lion was alone. Hence, she became loss in her mind.

Finally, the female lion let the baby antelope go to the river, but there are many predators lives in the bank of the river. Even though the baby antelope was protected by the lion, it was still eaten by an adult male lion. After that, the female lion was frighten and anguished and acted as a mother, she couldn’t leave the scene

On the next day of the death of the antelope, the female lion become a predator again, she killed a prey to feed herself. She was a truly predator, the only difference was that she didn’t equate the pray and the baby antelope.

Long TED Talk : Teach every children about food

1.   Summary

Jamie Oliver, a chef from UK, has worked to save people’s lives for the past 7 years. He wants to fight against the awful reality in America. America is now one of the unhealthiest countries in the world. There are 2/3 people in the USA are overweight now, and children will have 10 years shorter lifespans than their parents due to the wrong way of eating food. Furthermore, the main death-leading causes in the USA are all diet-related. In addition, the obesity deceases cost 10% of health care bills of America per year which is equal to 150 billion dollars; and in 10 years this amount will keep rising.
Oliver also told the food revolution he involved in Virginia. He pointed that the obesity and diet-related deceases not only hurt the patients themselves but also their friends and family members. Nevertheless, they are all preventable deceases.
Oliver shaped our daily food landscape into a triangle: main street, family and home. First, in the past 30 years, the big brands of fast food occupied the main streets and became a powerful power in the USA. Their power was even big enough to affect the law of food labeling. Fast food which is highly-processed and full of additives replaced local and fresh food. Second, home has stopped passing on the food culture because the change of our lifestyles. Third, people who provided the meals to the students in schools were not professional on food and limited by the tight budget. Therefore, they provided junk foods to schools.
Besides, Schools didn’t teach food knowledge to children. All the conditions above caused the serious situation in the USA.
Oliver thinks there are 4 ways to do a food revolution in America. The first, supermarkets should put a food-ambassador in each of them to teach people how to choose fresh food materials and cook nutritious meals. Second, big brand companies should put food education in their business, and they should help their customers to wean off over sugars and fat. Third, schools should provide the local and fresh food and take two-one hour session of food in their cruses. Last but not least, families should start again to pass on the food culture.
In conclusion, Oliver think people should believe that the slightly they do will bring the change. They should educate children about food, inspire families to cook again and empower everyone to fight for obesity. If America starts to do these, all other countries will follow soon, and the world will change.

2 What listeners can learn from this talk?

The listeners can learn 3 things in this speech. The first one is that we should care about our life skill, cooking, because everyone will face the responsibility to pass on our own food culture. It not only helps others but also save us from the unhealthy food. Second, we should supervise our government to enact strict food regulations so that we can make sure all the food we bought is safe for our bodies. Third, we should eat the food grown local rather than the highly-processed because they will be much fresher and contains more nutrition.

TED : Don't insist on English

1. Summary

The speaker is Patrica Ryan, who is from the UK, has already taught English in Gulf for 30 years. At the first, she talked about the connection of losing languages and globalization of English. Indeed, we need to enter those best universities in the world, which are almost in the UK or the USA, to get the better chance of our lives. We need to pass couple tests of English, such as TOEFL and IELTS, so these test become the barrier to get into this school. Although Ryan worked as English teacher, she didn’t think we should set the English as a barrier, it means we decline people who are talented but can’t afford the test fees. On the other hand, these tests equate English and knowledge. Some people do not need so many language skills and are not good at English on their work like scientists or engineers are also declined. This circular situation will make English more and more important and many other languages die.    In addition, there are 2 more points she mentioned in this speech why we should not insist on English. The first is the importance of cross-generation communication. If we can only speak English, we can’t learn the valuable knowledge from the elders who speak their or our mother language. Second, when we stuck in a thought, other languages maybe figure it out with different vocabularies; and through the cooperation we can benefit each other whom use different languages. In conclusion, she reminded us that we should celebrate the diversity and mind our own languages.

2. What can listeners learn from this talk?

Listeners can learn the importance of the diversity of languages. There is no wrong to strengthen our abilities of English to communicate with people form the different countries easily. Nevertheless, we shouldn’t ignore our language or even other languages in the world. It is because that once we learn these language, we can see the brand-new culture that we haven’t ever seen. The late but not the least, different languages can help us think in multiple angles so that we can figure problems out much easier.

After making sure that Kim had already thrown the grenade, he started to count how many seconds pasted and then timed the speed of the sound. And then he let Kim use the length he calculated as the radius and the hotel as the center of the circle to locate where he and Lenore were on the map.
